Pursuant to St 1898, c 433, s 8, the State Board of Insanity and successors were responsible for keeping records of commitment of all patients in institutions under their supervision. Subseries (2) is a microfilm record of what appears to be an index of patients admitted per St 1910, c 307 and St 1915, c 174 to Boston and Foxborough state hospitals (reels 1-4) in addition to/or instead of general recording requirements (reels 5-14)
